Traditional summer camp now in its 34th year meets in glorious Salzburg
Order of Malta members, volunteers and their young disabled guests party in the sunshine

500 participants – 200 young guests many in wheelchairs, 300 helpers, 28 countries represented – all up for a week of fun and joy – day outings, special activities, a disco, local food delicacies – and spiritual fulfilment.

Love was all around The Order’s Malteser Austria (MHDA) auxiliary first set up the Order of Malta International Summer Camp for young people with disabilities in the summer of 1984. This week, it’s back again, testifying to the spectacular success of the camp, which has been held every summer since, each time in a different European location.

The mission of the Order of Malta is inspired by its tradition of ‘Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum', to assist the poor and the sick, and bear witness to the Christian faith.

The Sovereign Order of Malta is a sovereign subject of international law. The Order - which is based in Rome, in via Condotti - has its own Government, an independent magistracy, and bilateral diplomatic relations with 110 countries.

The Order of St John of Jerusalem is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilisation. Present in Palestine in around 1048, it is a lay religious Order, traditionally of military, chivalrous, noble nature.
