Platinum Jubilee Celebrations!

All around London the Companions put on Platinum Jubilee Parties for their guests.

On Monday evening the Companions cafe at Spanish Place started the Jubilee Celebrations. Delicious food and dancing.

On Tuesday the Companions’ cafe – East Hill (Community Kitchen) carried on the celebrations. The dining room was festooned with Union Jack flags with mini-flags in every course including a delicious smoked salmon starter.

Then on Wednesday the amazing “early bird” volunteers at the Breakfast Club decorated the hall before the homeless guests came in for a delicious meal to start the day. As usual showers were on offer with new T-shirts and underwear to put on afterwards.

Finally, on Thursday there was a party at Companions Cafe – Spanish Place. 64 guests were served a wonderful supper. They started with cucumber sandwiches, followed by Coronation Chicken, pork pie, tomato salad, new potatoes, rocket leaves and finally pudding of Jubilee Trifle and scones with jam and cream.

A medley of British music was played – Beatles, Elton John, Queen, Handel, Parry, theme music of James Bond and Eastenders to name but a few! One of the volunteers sung Land of Hope and Glory to a round of applause. All guests went home with a Platinum Jubilee gift – tube of delicious shortbread.
