British volunteer first-aiders for Jubilee Year in Rome’s basilicas
Teams A and B are the Order’s first British teams to volunteer in Rome at the four basilicas for the Jubilee Year. As thousands of pilgrims descend on the city, the volunteers have been kept busy, attending to pilgrims visiting the basilicas. Over the year, members of the Order in Britain, with friends and volunteers, have offered their time and support for those needing care.
Each team attends two shifts per day in each basilica. A doctor, a nurse and two first-aiders are present for every shift, totalling 32 volunteers per week for 55 weeks, according to the Holy Doors opening and closing dates in the four basilicas.
About

The mission of the Order of Malta is inspired by its tradition of ‘Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum’, to assist the poor and the sick, and bear witness to the Christian faith.

The Sovereign Order of Malta is a sovereign subject of international law. The Order – which is based in Rome, in via Condotti – has its own Government, an independent magistracy, and bilateral diplomatic relations with 110 countries.

The Order of St John of Jerusalem is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilisation. Present in Palestine in around 1048, it is a lay religious Order, traditionally of military, chivalrous, noble nature.
