President Macron meets with the Order of Malta Lebanon teams
On 22 January, during his recent visit to Beirut, President Emmanuel Macron expressed his wish to meet with youngsters and humanitarians. As he walked the streets of Gemmayze, he reunited with the Order of Malta Lebanon teams, whom he had first met during his 2020 visit following the Beirut explosion. He thanked the staff and volunteers for their unwavering dedication, particularly during the recent war, recognising their critical role in providing care and support to those in need across the country, especially in the south.
The Order of Malta Lebanon expressed its gratitude for France’s support for its programmes empowering local communities, despite the immense challenges posed by the multi-dimensional crises and regional tensions.
This brief visit offered a unique opportunity to showcase the impact of the Lebanese Association’s works, from delivering essential healthcare services to food security (partially supported by France).
About

The mission of the Order of Malta is inspired by its tradition of ‘Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum’, to assist the poor and the sick, and bear witness to the Christian faith.

The Sovereign Order of Malta is a sovereign subject of international law. The Order – which is based in Rome, in via Condotti – has its own Government, an independent magistracy, and bilateral diplomatic relations with 110 countries.

The Order of St John of Jerusalem is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilisation. Present in Palestine in around 1048, it is a lay religious Order, traditionally of military, chivalrous, noble nature.
