32nd international Order of Malta hospitallers conference opens in Cologne
The 32nd international hospitallers conference of the Order of Malta opens today in Cologne. Senior office bearers responsible for the Order’s works around the world and heads of the Order’s auxiliary aid organisations are meeting to discuss and review projects over the last year and plan for future activities.
The theme this year is ‘resilience’ – defined as ‘the capacity to prepare for, resist, respond to, and quickly recover from, strategic shocks and disruptions, and to ensure the continuity of services.’
Current major areas of assistance include Ukraine, Lebanon and Gaza, where the Order is working to support the local populations, providing food and clothing, and psycho-social support.
About

The mission of the Order of Malta is inspired by its tradition of ‘Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum’, to assist the poor and the sick, and bear witness to the Christian faith.

The Sovereign Order of Malta is a sovereign subject of international law. The Order – which is based in Rome, in via Condotti – has its own Government, an independent magistracy, and bilateral diplomatic relations with 110 countries.

The Order of St John of Jerusalem is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilisation. Present in Palestine in around 1048, it is a lay religious Order, traditionally of military, chivalrous, noble nature.
