On 17 October, the Sovereign Council of the Order approved the creation of the Hong Kong Association, the 48th national Association and the third in Asia, after Singapore and Philippines.

The new Association has 23 members (15 knights, 8 dames). The new President is Denis Chang.

In Hong Kong, the Order of Malta manages a range of programmes for families living below the poverty line, and cooperates with other local associations in assisting children with special educational needs.
