Order elects senior officers for the period 2023-29

Presided over by the Lieutenant of the Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap and Cardinal Silvano Maria Tomasi, Special Delegate of the Pope, the Extraordinary Chapter General of the Sovereign Order of Malta has elected its senior office bearers for the period 2023-2029:
Grand Commander: Fra’ Emmanuel Rousseau
Grand Chancellor: Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo
Grand Hospitaller: Fra’ Alessandro de Franciscis
Receiver of the Common Treasure: Fabrizio Colonna di Paliano

The Chapter General meets every six years to elect the members of the Sovereign Council (the government of the Order of Malta) and seven members of the Board of Auditors. It plans activities, verifies the state of the Order’s assets and guides international relations. The Extraordinary Chapter General has been attended by 111 members of the Order of Malta from five continents.

Mission

The mission of the Order of Malta is inspired by its tradition of ‘Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum', to assist the poor and the sick, and bear witness to the Christian faith.

The Sovereign Order of Malta is a sovereign subject of international law. The Order - which is based in Rome, in via Condotti - has its own Government, an independent magistracy, and bilateral diplomatic relations with 110 countries.
