Requiem Mass honours founder of the British Association of the Order, Sir George Bowyer

On Saturday 7 June a Requiem Mass in honour of the founder of the British Association of the Order of Malta, Sir George Bowyer, took place in the Chapel of the Hospital of SS John and Elizabeth.
Sir George, convert, barrister, MP, contributed substantially to the setting up of the Association and its early works. At his request, his heart was buried in the Chapel of St John of Jerusalem which he had built at Great Ormond Street Hospital. When the Hospital moved to St John’s Wood in the 1890s, the Chapel was transferred, brick by brick, to its present site.

This year the Association celebrates its 150th anniversary.
